Note! The latest standard of EU toy flammability standard EN 71-2 has been released

      Author:中認聯(lián)科 time:2021-03-08 Ctr:2269

On December 9, 2020, the European Union issued a revised toy flammability standard EN 71-2:2020. This standard replaces the previous EN 71-2:2011+A1:2014.

EN 71-2 relates to the flammability requirements of toys. It is suitable for all toys and sets, and also has special requirements for the following toys:

      1. Toys worn on the head: beards, tentacles, wigs, etc. or flowing elements made of fluff or fluffy objects; masks; turbans and headwear accessories. However, it does not include paper and cardboard hats without decorations or accessories.

      2. Children's make-up costumes and toys worn by children during performances

      3. Toys made of textiles and/or polymer sheets and films for children to enter

      4. Soft stuffed toys

Due to an unfortunate accident at the British Halloween drag party, the standard was revised. The main changes are as follows:

      1. New definition of makeup and clothing

      2. Even if the instructions for use stipulate that it cannot be washed, the makeup and clothing should be tested before and after washing.

      3. The sample preparation method has been changed. It is now allowed to test smaller and narrower samples, and it is stated that the test includes seams and fillers.

      4. The test method is more detailed

      5. The toy classification guide has been transferred from TR 15371-1. This guide clarifies the specific toys to which EN 71-2 and Articles 4.1 to 4.2.5 apply.

The standard still needs to be coordinated. This means that it needs to be accepted by the European Commission and member states through publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). Only in this way can it be certified to comply with the EU Toy Directive 2009/48/EC.
